The foundations of society are not material things or even institutions. Rather, the unborn is born. That baby becomes an infant, the infant a young child, a child a teenager, a teenager a young adult, a young adult a partner or spouse, a spouse a parent, a parent a retiree, a retiree a grandparent, a grandparent a pensioner an ancestor—finito, or not, depending on your belief system.
These life transitions, or something like them, happen simultaneously and interactively within families, communities, and workplaces. They are the stages of life: from the subjective to the objective, from dependency to dependability—organic, thriving, energetic, bold, and nurturing — but above all, interdependent.
